Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook on July 16, 2026. This is the same product lineage, so older exports may still carry the NotebookLM name. CardQuire accepts text records rather than requiring a particular filename.

Get a native export

Open your flashcards in Gemini Notebook and use its CSV download control. Google’s current flashcard help documents this option. Publisher restrictions can prevent downloads for some material; CardQuire does not bypass those restrictions. You do not need to install an export extension for this workflow.

Map the fields, not the filename

  1. Choose Add chapter CSVs. You can select several chapters together.
  2. Give each file a short chapter label. The default labels are generic; the original filename is shown separately.
  3. Select the question and answer columns. The first three records are shown exactly as read so you can inspect the choice.
  4. Mark the first record as a header only when it really is one. Headerless files keep the first card.
  5. Confirm the choices for every file. The whole batch is added only after the final confirmation.

Google’s help does not establish a fixed header spelling. A row containing “Front, Back” may be a header, but it could also be a real question and answer. The tool never silently deletes it.

A three-column example

Question,Chapter note,Answer
"What scale?","Print setup","100%"
"Which paper?","Workshop A","A4"

Choose column 1 for questions and column 3 for answers, then confirm the header. Column 2 will not be printed, but its original text stays in the edition. Open a card’s original record to see all three cells.

Blank records and broken records

An entirely blank record can be excluded at import. It still has a retained card record and source position, so later rows do not move to misleading source numbers. A row with a question but no answer is different: it remains visible for repair and blocks printing while included.

A CSV record can span several physical lines when a quoted cell contains a line break. The editor shows both the CSV record number and physical start/end lines. Commas and quotes inside properly quoted cells are preserved.

Malformed quotes, invalid UTF-8, NUL characters, more than 32 columns or cells longer than 8,000 characters are rejected. Nothing is partially added. Export a clean UTF-8 CSV from your spreadsheet rather than renaming an XLSX file to .csv. Image, PDF and spreadsheet files are not imported.

Try it without private notes

Download the original printing-basics chapter and workshop-notes chapter. Start an empty edition, add both files and explicitly map the header. The next step is reviewing the repeated workshop question.
