How CardQuire preserves and prints cards

A small, inspectable job.

CardQuire composes an edition from text you already have. It does not access your Google account, scrape notebooks, call a model or create new educational answers.

The record contract

CSV is decoded as UTF-8 with invalid sequences rejected. Commas, quoted commas, escaped quotes, line breaks inside quoted cells and a leading UTF-8 BOM are handled. All records, including blank records, keep their ordinal and physical line positions. The original cells stay separate from edited question and answer text.

The import dialog requires explicit column and header confirmation. Several files are committed together after every mapping succeeds. A bad file or cancellation leaves the existing edition intact. Same-named files receive different source IDs.

Bounded by design

LimitValue
Original CSV size1 MiB per file, 4 MiB across the edition
Chapter files20
Retained card records1,000, including excluded records
CSV columns32
Characters per cell8,000
Saved edition file16 MiB

Source IDs and card IDs form retained sequences. Restored files must preserve one card record for every non-header source record; removing a card from a JSON is not the same as excluding it. Restore also validates numeric source-row references, mapping settings and print choices.

What comparison means

Repeated prompts are case-sensitive normalized text matches. See the worked chapter example for the exact normalization and invalidation rules. There is no fuzzy detection, correctness rating or plagiarism judgment. Human review is part of the workflow.

What the sample evidence covers

The implementation was checked against original adversarial CSV fixtures and 121 Persian-language cards from a public third-party repository described by its author as NotebookLM exports. Those study contents are not redistributed on this site. This is not an authenticated capture of the current Google export interface or a guarantee about every future format.

The public demonstration files are original synthetic workshop notes. They exercise a real ambiguity across two chapters without attributing a fabricated mistake to Gemini Notebook. They are available from the import guide.

Paper geometry

The fixed portrait layout uses 10 mm page margins, A4 or Letter, and two, four or eight cards per side. Long-edge pairing reflects columns; short-edge pairing reflects rows. Empty final-sheet positions are preserved. Both question and answer text must fit their print boxes before the edition is printable.

Browser rendering can validate page geometry and text overflow, but cannot certify a particular printer’s scaling, feed direction or physical registration. The calibration procedure is a necessary real-world check.

Use simpler tools when they are enough

Native CSV export is already available. A spreadsheet or a basic free CSV-to-flashcard printer may be enough for a single clean deck. CardQuire’s purpose is the combined workflow: chapter mapping, retained sources, deliberate repeat-prompt decisions, edits and a restorable paper edition.
